What is measured

The 2021 national census counted the population under a defined programme and reference date. Census results cover age, sex, education, languages, ethnicity, employment, households and migration.

How it works

A census and a current population estimate answer different questions and may differ. Current estimates account for births, deaths and migration after the base census.
